John Abdulai Jinapor, Minister of Energy and Green Transition, stated that the Ashanti Region will become an essential power generation center following the completion of critical energy projects expected to generate approximately 700 megawatts of electricity.
This was said by the minister when he visited the area to evaluate the problems with the power supply. He visited several important facilities during his tour, such as the ASKSA Energy Plants at the Awomaso Bulk Power Supply enclave, the Ameri Power Plant, and the Cenit.
Speaking to the media, Jinapor assured locals that measures are being taken to stabilize the area’s power supply.
“The supply situation has been stable, and we are able to export some excess amount of power. But there is still more work to be done. Beyond generating the power, you have to evacuate it, you have to transmit it, and you have to distribute it. And so we are working around the clock to ensure that we address this challenge and ultimately ensure that we have a very reliable supply and delivery of power,” he stated.
Additionally, he praised the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) for finishing the installation of a new transformer, which he said will be essential to the delivery of electricity.
“Let me commend GRIDCo for completing this transformer. It is going to play a very significant role as far as power delivery is concerned. What we witnessed over the past two days has to do with the fact that when you are switching from one transformer to the other, you will have some few challenges.
“And so let me assure the people of Kumasi that that problem has been resolved, and we look forward to a very improved delivery of power,” he stated.
