TUE, 18 MAR 2025

Tensions flared in Ghana’s Parliament after Interior Minister Mubarak Muntaka reaffirmed that no Member of Parliament is above the law, following an attempted arrest of Akwatia MP Ernest Yaw Kumi.

On March 7, operatives from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) arrived at an undisclosed location in three official vehicles to carry out the arrest, which Muntaka confirmed was authorized by a court order.

He dismissed claims of political intimidation, insisting that the agency acted within its legal mandate.

The incident has sparked controversy, particularly among Minority lawmakers, who argue that it raises serious questions about parliamentary immunity and the treatment of elected officials.

As the situation unfolds, further responses are expected from Kumi and other political figures.
