Interior Minister Mubarak Muntaka has reiterated that no Member of Parliament is above the law, following an attempted arrest of Akwatia MP Ernest Yaw Kumi by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) on March 7.

According to Muntaka, the operation, carried out by ten NIB operatives using three official pick-up vehicles, was backed by a valid court order.

He dismissed claims of political persecution, emphasizing that the agency was acting within its legal authority.

The incident has sparked strong reactions, particularly from the Minority in Parliament, who argue that it raises concerns about parliamentary privileges and the treatment of elected officials.

Addressing the matter on the floor of Parliament, Muntaka defended the government’s position, insisting that law enforcement agencies have the right to act when necessary.

As the situation develops, further responses are expected from Kumi and other political figures.
