The Minority Leader in Parliament and MP for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has indicated that he will seek clarification on the actual age of the newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno.
While congratulating the IGP in Parliament on Tuesday, March 18, the lawmaker referenced a statement by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, who mentioned that the IGP had served in the police service for 40 years.
Afenyo-Markin said this information would be thoroughly examined to determine the age at which the IGP joined the police force and whether he is due for retirement soon.
“I want to congratulate the new IGP on his appointment. However, in the statement from the Minister responsible for government communications, he told the country that the new IGP has spent 40 years in the service—40 years as a police officer. So at the right time, we will calculate whether he entered at 20, 19, or 18 years old and all that.
“But he has publicly stated that the new IGP has spent 40 years in the service. So I’m only doing the math to determine whether the IGP is retiring soon or not,” he said.
COP Yohuno who was the Deputy IGP replaced the immediate past IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare whose removal was met with jubilation from the service.
