The government has withdrawn treason felony charges against Oliver Barker-Vormawor, ending over two years of legal proceedings related to his alleged plan to stage a coup.
The charges stemmed from comments he made following the passage of the E-Levy. However, on Monday, March 17, Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine formally discontinued the case, as reported by Citi News.
This move is part of a broader decision by Dr. Ayine to drop several high-profile criminal cases, including the trial of Dr. Stephen Opuni and businessman Seidu Agongo, as well as charges against former Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama.
Speaking at a press conference, Dr. Ayine explained the rationale behind these decisions and suggested a broader review of the treason felony charges against Barker-Vormawor.
