President John Dramani Mahama has called on Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, the newly appointed Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, to spearhead the transformation of the nation’s prisons into centers focused on rehabilitation rather than simply places of detention.
During her swearing-in ceremony at the Jubilee House on Monday, March 17, 2025, President Mahama highlighted the crucial role of the Prison Service in the rehabilitation of offenders and the maintenance of justice within society.
He assured Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie of his administration's unwavering support in this endeavor. “The responsibility falls on you, Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie, to lead the charge in transforming our prisons into true centres of reformation and not just a place for incarceration. You have my full support in this mission,” he remarked.
The President expressed his confidence in her leadership and stressed the importance of significant reforms aimed at enhancing prison conditions and operations throughout the country.
