Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen, former Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said President John Dramani Mahama has not offended the constitution by appointing a new Inspector General of Police (IGP).

In light of the ongoing discussions surrounding the removal of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akufo Dampare, Obiri Boahen stated that the actions taken by the current administration should not be subjected to public scrutiny.

“Mahama hasn’t done anything wrong,” Obiri Boahen said on Original TV, today March 17, reinforcing that the President’s decisions regarding personnel changes fall within his constitutional rights and should be respected.

He pointed out that it is within the prerogative of any new government to appoint individuals who align with its vision and objectives. “It’s a new government, and they have every right to recruit new people and replace the old ones,” he emphasized.

Addressing those threatening legal actions in response to the leadership changes, Obiri Boahen dismissed such efforts as “a useless action,” suggesting that these moves lacked merit in the face of the government’s legitimate right to restructure its security apparatus.

Obiri Boahen also pointed to the controversies surrounding Dampare, particularly the accusations leveled against him by Bugiri Naabu. “The former IGP Dampare was exposed and accused several times,” Nana Obri Boahen remarked, implying that these allegations warrant further investigation and could uncover deeper issues within the police force.
