Dr. Daniel McKorley, Group Chief Executive Officer of the McDan Group of Companies, has observed that employees who are the loudest on social media often deliver the least value and impact in the workplace.

According to him, after 25 years of leading teams, building multiple businesses, and recruiting talent, he has noticed a pattern: those who frequently post about “working extra hours,” “putting in the work,” and positioning themselves as experts on platforms like LinkedIn are often underperformers.

However, he clarified that this does not mean people should shy away from sharing their accomplishments. Instead, he urged professionals to strike a balance between hard work and visibility.

“We love saying, ‘My work will speak for itself.’ But in today’s world, that’s just not enough. You could be doing the most groundbreaking work, but if no one knows about it, does it really exist? Visibility is not vanity—it’s strategy. It’s ensuring that your expertise, your impact, and your value reach the right people,” he stated in a social media post on Monday, March 17.

“Your work won’t speak for itself—you have to. Find the balance between making noise and being valuable, because real value isn’t in the noise, it’s in the results!” he further advised.

Dr. McKorley emphasized that in today’s competitive world, the belief that “my work will speak for itself” no longer applies.

He encouraged people to be intentional about sharing their achievements—big or small—to gain recognition and opportunities.
