The Communication for Development and Advocacy Consult (CDA Consult) has commended Dr. Sofo Tanko Rashid-Computer on his appointment as the Administrator and Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC).
CDA Consult believes that Dr. Rashid-Computer will input into the operations of GIFEC a rich experience in governance, technology, and education to drive the entity in the resetting agenda of the government of President John Dramani Mahama.
In a statement signed by Mr. Francis Ameyibor, CDA Consult Executive Director, and copied to the media on Monday, GIFEC acknowledged that the Dr. Rashid-Computer will accelerate its mission to bridge the digital divide between the served and unserved/underserved communities in Ghana.
Mr. Ameyibor said CDA Consult, which has embarked on a nationwide Change Paradigm Advocacy campaign for FREE HPV VACCINATIONS, will explore opportunities to collaborate with GIFEC to scale up prevention, detection, and treatment towards the elimination of cervical cancer in Ghana by 2030.
He explained that the advocacy aligns with the goal of the Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund, known as MahamaCare, to eliminate cervical cancer in Ghana and reduce the mortality rate that results from chronic diseases in Ghana.
Mr. Ameyibor noted that as GIFEC exists to provide financial resources for the establishment of universal service and access for all communities and facilitate the provision of basic telephony, internet, multimedia broadband, and broadcasting services to these communities, it is time to upscale health education through GIFEC.
A brief of Dr. Rashid-Computer indicates that he holds a PhD in Public Administration, MSc degrees in Criminal Justice and Public Administration, and a Bachelor of Arts degree. He is currently pursuing an LLB degree.
Until his appointment, he served as the Deputy National Director of Elections and Information Technology (IT) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
His extensive career includes serving as Northern Regional Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and Regional Manager of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
Beyond public administration, Dr. Rashid-Computer has been actively involved in academia, lecturing at various institutions, including Tamale College of Education (TATCO), Tamale Technical University (TATU), and Bimbilla Senior High School (BIMBISEC). He has also worked as an Assistant Examiner at the University of Cape Coast (UCC).
In politics, he has played key roles in the NDC’s Elections and IT Directorate, serving as Deputy National Director of Elections and IT, Head of Recruitment, Training, Examination, and Deployment, and Regional Director of Elections for the Northern Region.
Additionally, he has held the position of Regional Treasurer of the NDC and served as a Collation Agent for the party in various bye-elections.
As Acting CEO of GIFEC, Dr Rashid-Computer is expected to leverage his expertise in electronic communication, governance, and IT to advance the fund’s mission of promoting information technology and bridging the digital divide in Ghana.
In a related development, the Northern Regional Elections and IT Directorate of the NDC has congratulated Dr Rashid-Computer on his appointment.
His selection is seen as a strategic move to strengthen GIFEC’s operations and impact in Ghana’s electronic communication and information technology sector.
