Absolutely Nothing in the Guts of a Lizard; Abronye DC Must Not Feel Intimidated

The summons recently issued the Bono Regional Chairman of the country’s main opposition political party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Kwame Baffoe - aka Abronye DC - must not faze the spire-spitting young legal practitioner one bit. We are informed that the writ of summons was issued by the Bono Regional Commander of the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), formerly called the Special Branch of the Ghana Police Service (GPS), which was renamed and weaponized by the late Capt. (Ret) Kojo Tsikata, during the bloody “revolutionary” tenure of the late Chairman Jeremiah “Jerry” John Rawlings-led junta of the Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC), as a veritable instrument for the persecution and the government-sponsored torture and murder of the so-called Enemies of the Rawlings Revolution.

The respondent, that is, Mr. Kwame Baffoe, has been ordered to proceed directly to the nation’s capital of Accra to purportedly assist the Bureau in its investigation of an allegation which the Bono Regional Chairman of the country’s main opposition New Patriotic Party is alleged to have made on a television talking-heads program called “Movement in the Morning,” presumably in the Bono regional capital of Sunyani and its environs, to the effect that the newly, nonconsecutively elected President John “European Airbus SE Payola” Dramani Mahama has been deliberately and criminally sitting on a humongous sum of approximately GH¢550 million, belonging to former appointees of the previous Mahama regime (See “NIB Summons Abronye DC Over Wild[sic] Claim that President Mahama Is Hoarding GH¢559 Million” Ghanaweb.com 2/22/25).

Now, there is a glaring display of double standard here, being that as far as Yours Truly has been able to ascertain, the key operatives of the National Bureau of Investigations are not on record to have ever summoned President Mahama to either answer for or assist the BNI in its investigations of the very public allegations made against Mr. Sylvester Mensah, the former Mahama-appointed Executive-Director of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), the official overseer and supervisor of the John “The Gentle Giant” Agyekum-Kufuor-established low-premium National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), which was criminally, callously and kleptocratically bungled by the relevant or the officially designated operatives of the previous Mahama regime (2012-2017).

What is even more concerning is the fact that a publicly scapegoated and thoroughly humiliated Mr. Sylvester Mensah would be indicted, put under house arrest and have his bank accounts frozen and his passports seized by the Mahama government, although the accused would never be brought to trial. Recently and curiously, for example, Mr. Mahama had the temerity to appoint the formerly indicted and accused embezzler of funds belonging to the National Health Insurance Scheme to the even more politically and fiscally sensitive post of Executive-Director of the Export and Import (EXIM) Bank of Ghana. Now, doesn’t this tell both the top leadership of the NIB and Ghanaian citizens at large that President Mahama woefully lacks the requisite caliber and the credibility and the integrity to warrant having Mr. Kwame Baffoe’s being summoned to answer questions that the respondent very likely secured via reliable intelligence sources inside the Bureau of National Investigations itself?

Not very long ago, for example, it was brought to public light and attention by Ghanaweb Media Portal that some former Mahama lieutenants, including Mr. Inusah Fuseini, the former National Democratic Congress-sponsored Member of Parliament for Tamale-Central Constituency, in the Northern Region, and a former Mahama cabinet appointee to at least a half-dozen ministerial portfolios, had purchased prime landed and real-estate properties in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, some of which had been alleged to have been secured or purchased on behalf of their former boss and most, if not all, of which very likely had never been declared in the Assets Holdings or Property Ownership Documents filed with the Office of the Auditor-General’s Department, as clearly stipulated by Ghana’s 1992 Republican Constitution?

What is equally fascinating here is that this is not the very first time that the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party has publicly volleyed any damning allegation against against either the person or the government of the John “I Have No Classmates in Ghana” Dramani Mahama, which Mr. Mahama threatened via press or media releases from his lawyers to make Abronye DC dearly pay for the same, but all apparently to absolutely no avail, including Mr. Kwame Baffoe’s very public and widely publicized allegation that the then Vice-President Mahama could absolutely not by any credible measure claim not to have been actively in the know about the curious concatenation of events or set of circumstances that culminated in the highly suspicious passing of the late President John Evans Atta-Mills, on July 24, 2012 at the Old Danish-constructed Slave-Trading Fort in Accra, more popularly known as The Osu Castle.

You see, a man and a politician who has more than amply demonstrated to his countrymen and women that he has absolutely no regard or respect for their political and civic integrity - a typical case in point is Mr. Mahama’s recent summary dropping of dozens of forensically unimpeachable corruption indictment charges brought against platoons of vanguard operatives of the National Democratic Congress. I mean, whoever said that promoting a Mega-Thief like Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah, the former NDC Parliamentary Minority Caucus’ Leader and former Deputy Finance Minister, to the post of substantive Finance Minister was really what an Akufo-Addo and Bawumia-disaffected Ghanaian electorate bargained for, when they decided to return Yagbonwura Kwame Gonja to Jubilee House on December 7, 2024, in the name of change?

Ultimately, rather than be treated like a felon, of which the Mahama-led regime of the National Democratic Congress may be aptly envisaged to reserve an unenviable monopoly, the likes of Mr. Kwame Baffoe - aka Abronye DC - ought to be heartily celebrated for constantly reminding the Mahama and the Johnson “The Mosquito” Asiedu-Nketia Posse that they cannot keep blindly and wantonly creaming Ghanaian taxpayers and citizens with impunity and reckless abandon. The days of the P/NDC Reign-of-Terror are decidedly a relic of history.
