The Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku, popularly known as Ragga, has lauded former President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership, describing him as the only Ghanaian to have served as President three times.

Speaking on the Angel Morning Show on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, Dr. Nyarku highlighted Mahama’s extensive experience, expertise, and knowledge, arguing that these qualities position him for success in his renewed bid for leadership.

During the discussion on the theme “Ghana @68: How Do We Overcome Challenges to Living the Dreams of Our Forefathers?” he emphasized the need for a fresh approach to governance. According to him, Ghana must critically assess its past efforts, compare them with the current situation, and adopt new strategies to change the country’s fortunes.

Reflecting on Mahama’s political journey, Ragga noted that the former President’s loss, reflection, and comeback demonstrate a renewed determination to drive change. “I know he's going to succeed this time,” he stressed.

Addressing criticisms of Mahama’s 2025 State of the Nation Address (SONA), Dr. Nyarku dismissed claims that it was filled with lamentations. He argued that Mahama simply outlined the reality of the nation’s challenges and presented solutions to address them.

On education, he revisited the Free Senior High School (FSHS) policy, which he said was built on three pillars: Access, Equity, and Equality. However, he pointed out a major concern—over 300,000 FSHS graduates have been unable to access tertiary education. He urged Ghanaians to focus on finding solutions to youth unemployment, stating, “That is the worry, and that is what we should focus on—creating jobs for the teeming masses to contribute to national development.”

Dr. Nyarku further emphasized the need to identify and address challenges in education, technology, and infrastructure while fostering inclusiveness in governance. He praised President Mahama for initiating the National Dialogue, which brings together key stakeholders to shape Ghana’s future.

However, he expressed concern over the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) absence from key state events, including a parliamentary workshop for new MPs. He criticized their decision not to attend, stating, “They have new MPs, and that is where you go to learn the rudiments of Parliament. Because of partisanship, they refused to attend, only to come to Parliament and make a mess of themselves.”

Dr. Nyarku urged the NPP Minority to actively participate in national events and contribute to Ghana’s development. He warned that their continued refusal to engage with the NDC government and the state creates the impression that they are disinterested in the country’s progress—a perception he believes is detrimental to national unity.
