President John Dramani Mahama has invited Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, to reach out to him for a discussion.
The request came on Thursday, February 27, 2025, after Mahama delivered his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament. While greeting MPs after his speech, he paused to exchange pleasantries with Agyeman-Rawlings and specifically asked her to call him.
Though the purpose of the conversation remains unclear, Mahama’s request followed remarks from Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who criticized the President for failing to meet his commitment to increasing female representation in his Cabinet.
Afenyo-Markin pointed out that despite Mahama’s pledge to allocate 30% of Cabinet positions to women, only two out of 19 ministers were female, amounting to just 10%.
He also suggested that qualified women within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), including Agyeman-Rawlings and Helen Ntorsu, had been overlooked for key positions despite their experience and dedication.
Mahama’s invitation has since sparked speculation about whether it could be related to the growing concerns over gender representation in his administration.
