Bongo SHS Tutor highlights role of art in youth empowerment

A tutor from the Virtual Arts Department at Bongo Senior High School, Madam Georgina Tabiri, has emphasized the importance of artworks in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a means of empowering youth and creating job opportunities.

She highlighted the rising unemployment rates in Ghana and other countries, attributing the trend to a lack of technical, vocational, and entrepreneurial skills. According to her, the modern job market is highly competitive, and young people should shift from traditional book-based learning to hands-on skills acquisition.

Speaking to pupils of Bongo D/A Primary School in the Upper East Region, Madam Georgina stressed the need to introduce children to practical artistic activities to equip them with essential skills for their future careers.

During the engagement, the pupils were taught how to make tie-dye and handkerchiefs. "My goal was to inspire and equip them with artistic skills, fostering a passion that will hopefully stay with them for years to come," she stated.

She further noted that students expressed immense joy during practical sessions. "They were beaming with pride and happiness as they showcased their creations," she added.

Madam Georgina concluded by expressing her appreciation to the Headmistress, staff, and pupils of Bongo D/A Primary School for their support and cooperation.
