Vice Chairman of the campaign team of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 election, Nana Akomea has disclosed that two months after the exercise, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has not recovered from the shock.
In the election held on December 7 last year the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) defeated the ruling NPP.
At the end of the Parliamentary polls, the NDC secured over 180 seats to earn an overwhelming majority in Parliament.
The NPP on the other hand, lost its Majority status to become the new Minority, having only won 88 of the Parliamentary seats.
In the Presidential election, the NDC candidate, John Dramani Mahama secured 6,591,790 votes, representing 56.42 per cent of valid votes cast.
His closest competitor, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), received 4,877,611 votes, accounting for 41.75 per cent.
According to Nana Akomea, the NPP is yet to recover from this huge defeat two months after the election.
He holds the view that even the NDC did not expect to win the election with such a huge margin.
“We have not recovered from the shock of the 2024 election results. NDC knew they were ahead but even they didn’t expect the margin of victory they got in the 2024 General election,” Nana Akomea said in an interview with GHOne TV on Tuesday, February 18.
