President John Dramani Mahama is set to open the National Education Forum at the Volta Serene Hotel in Ho, the Volta Regional Capital.
The three-day event, which runs from Tuesday, February 18, will focus on the theme “Transforming Education for a Sustainable Future.”
The forum brings together key stakeholders, including government officials, policymakers, educators, development partners, and civil society groups, to discuss critical issues affecting Ghana’s education sector. Discussions will center on challenges such as infrastructure deficits, improving the quality of education, governance, financing, and research.
One of the major highlights of the forum will be deliberations on the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, its impact on education quality, and potential reforms to address concerns raised by parents, teachers, and education experts. Stakeholders will also examine the role of technical and vocational education in equipping students with relevant skills for the job market.
Additionally, the forum will explore strategies for increasing access to education in underserved communities, integrating digital learning tools, and strengthening teacher training programs to enhance educational outcomes.
President Mahama is expected to outline his administration’s vision for education, emphasizing policies aimed at ensuring sustainable funding, equity, and innovation in the sector. His speech will likely address ongoing efforts to improve school infrastructure, expand scholarship opportunities, and foster partnerships to drive educational development.
The National Education Forum is expected to produce actionable recommendations that will shape policy direction in the coming years, ensuring that Ghana’s education system remains responsive to the country’s evolving needs.
