Saaka Abuba has been elected as the North East Region’s representative on the Council of State after winning a closely contested rerun.
The election, held on Monday, February 17, 2025, saw Abuba secure 7 out of 12 votes, defeating his main challenger, Asabigi San Malunga, who received 5 votes.
A rerun became necessary after the initial election ended in a tie, with both candidates receiving six votes each. To break the deadlock, the Electoral Commission organized a second round of voting, which was conducted under tight security and strict adherence to electoral guidelines, ensuring a smooth and transparent process.
Meanwhile, a rerun was also held in the Ashanti Region after disruptions in the initial election prevented a clear winner from being declared.
