Chief Abuba elected Council of State member for North East Region

Chief Saaka Abuba won the North East Regional Council of State election by 7 votes against his opponent, Mr. Asabigi Malunga Nasamu, who got 5 votes today Monday, February 17, 2025.

The EC postponed the North East Council of State election last week following equality of votes between two aspirants to today Monday, February,17th 2025, for a rerun.

According to the Council Of State Member-elect, Chief Saaka Abuba, he appreciates the effort and support of everyone in the Region.

He urged the people of North East to support him in this endeavor to harness development in the area.

Speaking on the recent atrocities in Walewale and its surrounding communities, Chief Saaka mentioned that the solution is not curfew but the government should engage the chiefs are opinion leaders on both sides, Kussasis and Mamprusis, enforce escorts and patrol teams on Bolga-Walewale-Tamale Highways to find lasting solution to the situation.

Chief Saaka underscored the need for proper engagement with the chiefs, especially the Overlords of the two factions, the Mamprugu Paramount chief and the Kussasis chief for proper dialogue, to restore lasting peace in the two Regions, North East and Upper East Regions.

He noted that the number of casualties and tension in the areas is affecting businesses and economic activities.

Chief Saaka therefore appeals to the residents of Walewale and its surrounding communities to remain calm while the government puts up appropriate measures to ensure citizens have the freedom to move and do their daily activities freely.
