A clash between youth suspected to be sympathizers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Police Anti-Robbery personnel has led to the arrest of one individual at the Ashanti Region's Council of State Elections.
Reports indicate that the youth refused to comply with instructions from security personnel deployed to protect the polls, sparking the confrontation. The arrested individual, whose identity has not been revealed, has been taken into police custody.
The incident has heightened tensions at the election grounds, with more youth protesting the arrest.
To ensure the safety and security of the electoral process, a large security presence has been deployed at the new venue, Prempeh Assembly Hall, after a change in location. Dozens of armed Police Anti-Robbery personnel, along with hundreds of other armed officers, have been stationed at the hall.
This comes after earlier chaos disrupted the initial election, with some media personnel caught in the melee.
Despite these challenges, the elections are proceeding, with candidates awaiting the final outcome.
