Telecommunication giant MTN Ghana held a blood donation exercise in three Senior High Schools in Kumasi, coinciding with this year's Valentine’s Day celebration.
The initiative was carried out in collaboration with health officials from the Blood Bank of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH). The beneficiary schools included KNUST Senior High School, Asanteman Senior High School, and Bonwire Senior High School.
This initiative falls under MTN’s Save a Life Campaign, an annual blood donation drive held on Valentine’s Day and organized by the MTN Ghana Foundation. The campaign provides MTN staff and the general public with the opportunity to donate blood to help replenish the National Blood Bank and regional hospitals.
Launched in 2011, the campaign was a response to appeals from the National Blood Service for voluntary contributions to address critically low blood supplies. Since its inception, the exercise has successfully raised over 29,000 units of blood.
For this year’s edition, MTN Ghana aims to collect 6,110 units of blood to support the National Blood Service and major regional hospitals across the country.
Speaking to the media during the donation exercise at KNUST, Simon Amoh, Senior Manager of General Trade (Northern Sector), emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting healthcare needs in the communities it serves.
"Last year, we collected about 5,000 units of blood. This year, we want to do more because the need is greater. We have envisioned collecting more to ensure that more people can stay healthy," he stated.
