President John Dramani Mahama will deliver the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Thursday, February 27.
The announcement was made by the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Mahama Ayariga, on the floor of Parliament on Friday, February 14.
The Bawku Central Member of Parliament also disclosed that Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson will present the 2025 budget statement on Tuesday, March 11.
“The Minister for Finance has indicated that he would want to present the budget either on the 10th or 11th. But the 10th is a Monday, and since we don’t sit on Mondays, March 11 is a more appropriate date for him to present the budget.
“The Office of the President has also communicated that the State of the Nation Address, if we are available as a House, can be presented on February 27. So that is the provisional date the Office of the President has communicated to us regarding the presentation of the State of the Nation Address by His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama,” the Majority Leader stated.
The State of the Nation Address is an annual address to Parliament by the President of Ghana, covering the economic, social, and financial state of the country, as stipulated in Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
Being his first since resuming his second term, the President is expected to give a true account of the state of the nation handed over to him by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party administration.
