Former Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame has addressed the discontinuation of cases by his successor, Dr. Dominic Ayine.
According to him, this has made President John Dramani Mahama a clearing agent determined to protect his allies from the law.
“I am reassured by the fact that Ghanaians are discerning enough to discover the illegitimate motives for the discontinuance of the cases in question. The President, through his Attorney-General, has in a spectacular fashion, become the clearing agent to indemnify their allies who have duly been put before the courts for commission of crimes,” Godfred Yeboah Dame said at a press conference in Accra on Friday, February 14.
This comes after Attorney-General Dominic Ayine discontinued multiple cases pursued by Godfred Yeboah Dame but was unsuccessful in securing a conviction from the court.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, February 12, Dr. Ayine explained that his decisions to discontinue the cases were guided by ethical considerations, legal principles, and a commitment to fairness and transparency.
Reacting to the explanations today, Godfred Yeboah Dame stated the posture adopted by Dominic Ayine does not only undermine the country’s democracy but good governance structures as well.
“The posture adopted by the Hon. A-G threatens to undermine Ghana’s democratic and good governance structures,” he stated.
