President John Mahama engaged in bilateral meetings on Thursday on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, focusing on strengthening regional security cooperation and expanding investment opportunities in Ghana.
A key highlight of the discussions was a meeting with General Michael E. Langley, Commander of the United States Africa Command (USAFRICOM), where they addressed pressing subregional security threats and the need for increased U.S. support in combating these challenges.
"Today's meeting with General Langley highlights Ghana's commitment to enhancing our security posture in response to evolving threats across the region," stated President Mahama. "We appreciate the support of the United States and are keen to expand our collaborative efforts."
Discussions included the establishment of a bilateral agreement for joint maritime patrols, an initiative aimed at protecting Ghana’s coastal waters while tackling illegal fishing and piracy. They also explored ways to improve coordination between USAFRICOM and the Ghana Armed Forces to enhance security cooperation and logistics, ensuring greater operational effectiveness.
With regional security remaining a top priority, these meetings underscore Ghana’s commitment to building strong partnerships that can effectively address emerging threats and promote stability across West Africa.
The Munich Security Conference, a key global platform for dialogue on international security, provided an opportunity for President Mahama to reinforce Ghana’s strategic engagement with USAFRICOM and its proactive stance on regional security.
