Richard Ahiagbah, the National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), says the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) will face divine repercussions following the recent dismissal of employees recruited after December 7, 2024.
Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, on Tuesday, February 11, announced in a statement that the appointments and recruitments in question were not in compliance with established good governance practices and principles.
As a result, the statement directed: “Heads of Government Institutions… to take the necessary steps to annul any such appointments or recruitments and submit a comprehensive report on the actions taken to this Office by February 17, 2025.”
Speaking on Accra-based JoyNews’ The Pulse on Thursday, February 13, the NPP spokesperson said the NDC would not be forgiven by God for dismissing numerous Ghanaians the NPP government recruited last minute.
He explained that the tenure of a President runs from January 7 to December 6, during which every action taken in line with the Constitution remains valid.
“God will not forgive the NDC. If they dismiss these Ghanaians, who have done nothing but offer themselves to serve, God will not forgive the NDC. And I’m telling them, if they choose to take that advice, it will help them. But if they go ahead, the consequences will be very clear,” Ahiagbah warned.
He cited an instance in 2016 when the NDC made appointments as late as December 19. He added that the NDC appointed heads of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), and the Audit Service. According to him, the NPP allowed those appointments.
“The NDC, on December 20, 2016, also increased the national service allowance by about 200 Ghana cedis. That was a liability they imposed on the incoming government. We upheld it because it was a legitimate government of this state that made those decisions. So, we must abide by them,” Ahiagbah added.
Meanwhile, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of Government Communications, has clarified that the affected appointments were fraught with irregularities, as some were made to bypass interviews and other proper procedures.
