Private legal practitioner, Lawyer Martin Kpebu has raised concerns about the managerial abilities of Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng.
Speaking to Joy FM, Martin Kpebu stressed that Kissi Agyebeng needs to answer questions over the long delay in going after former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
"So how come Kissi Agyebeng sat on his hands all these years and now, when Ofori-Atta says he is going for medical treatment, he is suddenly declared wanted? It just does not add up. Look at the SML matter, it emerged in December 2023. The OSP had the whole of 2024 to take action. With at least 180 new staff joining from September 2023, who had ample time to settle in before the SML case broke, I expected that some would be assigned to these cases.
“Instead, they waited until after December 2024, and now, when Ofori-Atta claims he has travelled for medical treatment, they suddenly declare him wanted….Kissi Agyebeng’s managerial abilities come into great question. He has serious questions to answer about his managerial abilities,” lawyer Martin Kpebu said.
Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta who is currently out of Ghana for medical care has been declared a fugitive by the Special Prosecutor.
At a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, February 12, the Special Prosecutor noted that Ken Ofori-Atta is a suspect in four high-profile corruption investigations, including cases related to the National Cathedral project, Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML), and two others.
He has urged the former Finance Minister to return to Ghana voluntarily or he will be forced to return.
