In a bid to help religious adherents better understand the concept of salvation, Mrs. Evelyn Warlson Annan, founder of the Asaase Yaa Awakening Center (AYAC), has provided some insightful perspectives on the subject.
She made these remarks during an interview on Nyansa TV's YouTube channel on Sunday, February 9, 2025. She began by explaining that there is no universal agreement on the concept of salvation, as many people are led to believe. She emphasized that different religious traditions have varying understandings of what salvation means.
Mrs. Warlson Annan highlighted that the meaning of salvation differs among the Greeks, English, French, and Israelis. While the Greek concept of salvation was created, later deified, and achieved on an individual basis, that of the Jewish people is collectively achieved, rather than on an individual level.
"When a Jew says they're waiting for their salvation, they are waiting for a collective experience, not an individual one," stressed Madam Warlson Annan.
Conversely, she explained that the Christian philosophy of salvation focuses on an individual belief in one person, viewed as the savior. Upon a believer's confession to that individual, the person is considered saved. "Without confessing to Jesus Christ, you cannot be saved; this is the Christian philosophy," she explained.
Drawing on the Islamic perspective, she noted that in Islam, salvation is rooted in devotion to God, emphasizing that anything done in God's name will earn one a place in the most peaceful and rewarding realm, where one can live freely and reign as desired. The Indian perspective, on the other hand, views salvation in terms of consciousness — a state of awareness in which one realizes their true self. According to Indian thought, salvation can be achieved through rebirth, which allows one to experience the essence of salvation.
Despite these various perspectives, the AYAC founder pointed out that the concept of salvation predates the birth of Jesus Christ. "The concept of salvation was born in Egypt long before Jesus was born," she emphasized.
As society evolves and absorbs various philosophies, the understanding of salvation has also evolved. Among the Christian faith, salvation means different things to different Christian sects.
"Jesus Christ came to preach consciousness, not what is being preached to congregants today. Jesus was more of an awakening person than a religious person. He tried to help humanity find their place in God," she concluded.
