Ghana has made history at the African Union (AU) elections in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with all three of its candidates securing key positions.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced the achievement on Wednesday, describing it as a 100% win for Ghana at the AU headquarters.

In the latest results, Ambassador Jane Gasu Aheto has been elected to serve on the African Union Commission on International Law (AUCIL), while Lawyer Kwami Edem Senanu has been re-elected to the African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption (AUABC). These victories follow the successful election of Ambassador Amma A. Twum-Amoah as AU Commissioner on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.

Minister Ablakwa praised the efforts of the campaign team, Ghana’s Mission in Addis Ababa, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and President John Dramani Mahama in securing this remarkable achievement.

“The Black Star rises again! Ghana remains a strong force on the African continent,” he said.

As of now, Ghana is the only country to have won all of its contested positions, marking a significant diplomatic success.
