The Member of Parliament (MP) for Builsa North, James Agalga has urged former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to return to Ghana to answer questions regarding allegations of corruption.

The former Minister has been declared a fugitive by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng.

At a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, February 12, the Special Prosecutor noted that Ken Ofori-Atta is a suspect in four high-profile corruption investigations, including cases related to the National Cathedral project, Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML), and two others.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, February 13, James Agalga admonished Ofori-Atta to return to Ghana and engage the Special Prosecutor to address all the allegations levelled against him.

“The Special Prosecutor has spoken, he says he extended an invitation to Ofori-Atta and his lawyers offered to present themselves for questioning but he said no, lawyers are not the subject of the investigation so he wants to talk to Ofori-Atta himself. Could this be the reason why agents of our state security apparatus stormed his home?

“I, as a lawyer, was struggling to establish for myself which of the provisions of our constitution have been violated. I found none. Ken Ofori-Atta can submit himself to the law for purposes of investigations and when there are violations I will be the first to speak for and on his behalf, not until then he should be law-abiding, come back home and engaged with the Special Prosecutor so that the allegations that have been levelled against him can be dealt with,” James Agalga said.

Commenting on the issue, MP for Nhyiaeso, Dr. Stephen Amoah noted it is not true Ken Ofori-Atta has absconded from the country.

“I want to make it emphatically clear that Hon Ken Ofori-Atta has not run away. I want to advise this August House that I think that our actions and commissions over the years have defined us and we have given the public external stakeholders to always see us through different lenses, it is time we put an end to what we do to each other,” he stressed.
