New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South Constituency, Hon. Dr. Kinsley Agyemang, has criticized the government’s decision to revoke appointments made by the previous NPP administration after the December 7 polls, calling it baseless and politically motivated.
President John Mahama, through Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, issued a directive on February 11, 2025, ordering heads of public institutions to revoke any appointments made after December 7, 2024.
Speaking in an interview with Prince Nii Ade (Dok Cash) on OTEC FM’s flagship afternoon political talk show Dwabrem, Dr. Agyemang argued that the move was merely an attempt to remove newly recruited employees and replace them with National Democratic Congress (NDC) loyalists and family members.
He contended that President Mahama was elected by Ghanaians and, therefore, had no justification for denying citizens the opportunity to work in the public sector.
Dr. Agyemang suggested that if the government had concerns about the legitimacy of the appointments, it should have conducted an audit to determine whether they were made based on merit rather than canceling them outright.
He further urged Ghanaians to speak out against the decision, warning that it could set a dangerous precedent for future administrations.
"Every Ghanaian must speak against this decision because not only supposed NPP members since it is not only NPP members were recruited. President Mahama promised a better Ghana for all but some of these decisions and too harsh so I ask, is this the better Ghana we are going to experience?" he quizzed.
Mr. Agyemang however urged President John Mahama and his government to take a second look at some of such decisions as it would increase the unemployment rate in Ghana which is a threat to national security.
