In a surprising turn of events, the Council of State election in the Central Region scheduled to start at 0700 hrs at the Banquet Hall of the Regional Coordinating Council is yet to begin.
Despite the Electoral Commission's (EC) readiness, delegates are nowhere to be found as of 1000 hours, leaving officials baffled.
Mr Manu Sakyi, the Regional Director of the EC expressed shock at the turn of events, saying, “We've been ready since 0700 hours, but there's no delegate here to vote.
“We agreed to give the contestants some minutes to address delegates before the election starts but surprisingly, the election room is filled with contestants’ agents and monitors without any delegate,” he said.
As the morning wore on, the Ghana News Agency (GNA) spotted some contestants at a distance from the voting venue, chatting with delegates in what appeared to be last-minute lobbying efforts.
The election's outcome will be determined by a 44-member electoral college, comprising two representatives from each of the 22 assemblies in the region.
A total of 10 candidates are in the running, including Hannah Cudjoe, the sole female contender.
Unlike public elections, the Council of State members are elected through this electoral college system.
As the day unfolds, all eyes are on the Central Region, eagerly awaiting the outcome of this crucial election.
The topic for discussion on the lips of many onlookers is whether the delegates would finally arrive to vote, and which candidate would emerge victorious.
