The Chairman of the Committee set up to gather information through the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has justified why it was necessary to establish the anti-corruption initiative.

The committee set up by President John Dramani Mahama formally presented its findings to the President on Monday, February 10.

Speaking after the presentation of the findings, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa indicated that the committee received 2,417 complaints.

According to him, the complaints justify why it was important for President John Dramani Mahama to set up the committee.

“We received 1,493 calls through the toll-free line. We also received 924 emails. Fortunately, all the calls are recorded automatically, and the emails have also been preserved for verification and validation. In total, the number of complaints received amounts to 2,417 complaints,” Ablakwa said.

The North Tongu Member of Parliament continued, “So, those who had any doubt about how relevant and timely the President’s intervention was at the time, this is your evidence. 2,417 complaints received. Where would all of these people have gone if President Mahama had not set up the ORAL preparatory team?”

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa further disclosed that the state can retrieve $20.49 billion through 36 cases in the complaints put together by the ORAL Committee.

The ORAL Committee since its setting up has gathered information on government officials of the past government who are suspected to have looted state resources from the country.

The reports gathered will be investigated by the Attorney General and pursued to recover stolen state funds and properties.
