The Member of Parliament for Tano South, Charles Asiedu, has explained his role in the chaos that erupted during the ministerial vetting session on Thursday, January 30.

The incident occurred when the Minority Caucus clashed with the Majority over an attempt to postpone the evening’s vetting due to the late hour, leading to the destruction of tables and microphones.

Speaking on Monday, February, 10, during his appearance before the special committee tasked to probe the matter, the Tano South lawmaker, who was seen in videos pushing tables, said his actions were intended to protect the property from being destroyed, which he claimed was largely caused by the Minority NPP.

He recounted that the MP for Weija-Gbawe made a suspicious move from the Minority side to the Majority side after the Minority Chief Whip said something to him, but later returned to his original seat.

“I saw the Minority Chief Whip, Annoh-Dompreh, saying something to Honorable Jerry, the Weija-Gbawe MP. Because of the noise in the room, I couldn’t hear exactly what was said. Jerry then came behind the cameras to where Honorable Kwabena Mintah Akandoh was seated. So I thought, what’s happening? Because that wasn’t his usual position.

“So I quickly rushed to see what he was up to and why he had moved to that spot. When I got to Honorable Akandoh’s position, within a few minutes, Honorable Jerry returned to his original position. Then I heard, ‘Push the table away!’” Asiedu explained.

The MP, who is the son of NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, added, “I realized I needed to protect the tables, consoles, and microphones from being destroyed. So I left my position and supported the table. Unfortunately, they [the Minority Caucus] overpowered us.”
