NPP defeat; the Postmortem (3)

When NPP won power in 2016, an infinitesimal bunch with selfish interests surrounded an otherwise very generous patriotic Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and tarnished his image with their arrogance and greed.

As a result, those that actually toiled to bring the party to power were kept at bay, while through machinations of these self-appointed power-brokers, juicy appointments were given, largely, to complete strangers.

'Yooke gari'
They behaved as though it was by their efforts, alone, that made the party's electoral victory possible. We ate 'yooke gari' together in opposition but these people became deities and wanted to be worshipped.

HE Nana Addo appointed over 7000 people and if they hadn't been that foolishly greedy and despicably selfish, the party's grassroot base wouldn't have been so alienated, resulting in apathy and our meteoric defeat.

Vultures
A next NPP Administration, possibly in 2028, must cut-off all non-appointed but unrestrained deities walking the corridors of power with their fingers in every decision-making meat pie because they're destructive lot.

The scenario where, vultures with absolutely no track record in the gutters of electioneering campaign, suddenly emerge from the shadows to start grabbing juicy appointments because they have godfathers, is now gone.

Office staff
Again, those the President would appoint as office staff must treat people with utmost respect and not behave like deities that must be feared. The President must be accessible to to party people when necessary.

The President must not be made to attend naming ceremonies of his office staff, while at the same time, access to him is denied to a bereaved hardworking party member who is very well-known to the President.

Empathy
We must not let the President show empathy, in any shape or form, to so-called celebrities and oscillating media practitioners, while at the same time, the ordinary hardworking party member in distress is overlooked.

From experience I gathered in my 8-year association with political power, I have come to appreciate how those that didn't put in much energy during campaign, rather end up getting the best after victory has come.

Mini skirt
Indeed, the dynamics of political power is very much akin to a lady's mini skirt; what it exhibits is eye-popping, and what it conceals is intriguing. But things can always be managed to bring about equity and fairness.

Hindsight
In my estimation, John Dramani Mahama, with benefit of hindsight, has been politically tactful and meticulously strategic with his ministerial and other appointments; it's those at campaign forefront and grassroots can relate.

He hasn't appointed any visibly-unknown person to a frontline position; financiers, both home and abroad, with whom ordinary party FOOL-soldiers cannot relate, can be sorted with official government contracts.

What I don' understand is this brewing storm of disgruntling among the party's MPs for not getting ministerial appointments, when they were happily on the campaign trail with JDM promising only 60 ministerial slots.
