The Parliamentary ad-hoc committee investigating the disruptions during the vetting session of the Appointments Committee on January 30, 2025, is set to resume its public hearings on Friday, February 7, 2025.
This follows an unexpected suspension of proceedings on February 5, initially believed to have been ordered by Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin. However, it later emerged that the decision came from the Clerk of Parliament without the Speaker’s knowledge.
Chairman of the committee, Emmanuel Bedzrah, clarified in an interview on Joy FM that Speaker Bagbin has now officially instructed the committee to continue its investigations. The hearings are expected to shed light on the events that led to the chaotic scenes during the ministerial vetting process.
“I need to meet with my committee members this morning. We agreed to have a meeting at 3 O’clock by then I would have received some information from the speaker. So, for today, there won’t be any public hearings. We will continue tomorrow [Friday, February 7].
“…The speaker called and said, ‘No, we cannot stop this work, we should continue, and he has given direct instruction to the clerk that we should continue,” he emphasised.
