Artificial Intelligence: A Combative Technology Against Corruption—Dr. Kpodar

Dr. Chris Kpodar, a renowned Artificial Intelligence (AI) Expert has proposed a groundbreaking solution to combat corruption in Ghana and to eliminate manual processes that enable corruption and fraud, predicting or revealing activities that were previously undetectable.

He emphasized that for the government to gain credibility, it must invest in AI to address corruption sustainably, stressing that “this investment would enable the government to redesign systems prone to bribery, promoting transparency and trust.”

Dr. Kpodar, who is the Executive Director of Solomon Investment Ghana Limited, noted that through the usage of AI predictive analytics, automation and transparency, data analysis and visualization, machine learning and natural language processing, chatbots and virtual assistants, and blockchain and distributed ledger technology.

In an interview, he highlighted the importance of effective public scrutiny in preventing corruption.

He noted that AI is essential for modernizing investigations, making it a crucial tool in the fight against corruption, and acknowledged the government's digitization efforts, stressing that digitization is key to deploying AI as an anti-corruption tool, even in sectors like mining.

Dr. Kpodar, who served as a former UN Senior Consultant for Africa and the Middle East and also as the Chief Technical Advisor at the Centre for Greater Impact Africa, stressed that for the government to gain credibility, it must invest in AI to address corruption sustainably.

He emphasizes that AI can redesign systems prone to bribery, promoting transparency and trust, stressing that effective public scrutiny is crucial in preventing corruption, making AI essential for modernizing investigations.

Dr. Kpodar stressed that the use of AI algorithms can analyze large datasets to identify patterns and anomalies that may indicate corrupt activities, while AI-powered systems can assess the risk of corruption in various transactions, contracts, or decisions.

The Executive Director of Solomon Investment Ghana Limited explained that AI can automate manual processes, reducing the opportunity for human intervention and corruption, while AI-powered systems can provide real-time monitoring and tracking, increasing transparency and accountability.

“AI can analyze large datasets to identify suspicious transactions, contracts, or decisions; visualize complex data, making it easier to identify patterns and anomalies; and detect anomalies in transactions, contracts, or decisions.

“AI-powered systems can analyze text data to identify sentiment and tone, helping to detect potential corruption, and AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants can provide a secure and anonymous way for citizens to report corruption,” Dr. Kpodar stated.

He stressed that AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants can provide citizens with information on government services, reducing the need for intermediaries and potential corruption.

Dr. Kpodar stressed that AI-powered blockchain systems can provide secure and transparent transactions, reducing the risk of corruption, and are used to create immutable records, making it difficult to alter or manipulate data.

He stressed that the benefits of AI in combating corruption would lead to an increase in transparency and accountability in government transactions and decisions, while AI can automate manual processes, reducing the opportunity for corruption and improving efficiency.
