Samuel Nartey George, Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram and Minister-designate for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, has hinted at plans to sanitize the media space.
Sam George assured that once he is sworn in as Minister of Communications, the spread of disinformation and misinformation will be curtailed.
In a social media post on Tuesday, February 4, Sam George reacted to a doctored image of him in Parliament, in which the content he was viewing on his phone had been replaced with an adult movie scene.
“I can assure them that the days of misinformation and cheap fabricated lies are coming to an end. The ministry will tighten regulations on such illegal acts of misinformation and disinformation in the coming weeks and sanitize our media space,” his post read in part.
Sam George further asserted that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is not happy about his new position.
The vocal lawmaker stated that the party has shown they won’t stop fighting him, even after failing to have his approval rejected on the floor of Parliament.
“It is clear to me that the NPP is so hurt by my nomination as Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation and would stop at nothing to fight it.
“After failing to mobilize their own caucus in Parliament to vote against my nomination, they have resorted to a smear campaign and cheap lies with fake photos,” his post added.
Meanwhile, the minority caucus boycotted Sam George’s approval after an unsuccessful attempt to get him to withdraw and apologize for a comment he made against former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
