Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has commended the Minority caucus for their cooperation during the ministerial vetting and approval process.

The Bawku Central lawmaker said the House has so far vetted and approved 40 ministers nominated by President John Dramani Mahama within a short time —a feat he describes as historic.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, February 4, Mr. Ayariga stated that the House would approve the remaining two nominees by the close of the day.

“Mr. Speaker, today is the 4th of February 2025. We are not yet even one month into the administration of His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama. Mr. Speaker, we have vetted and approved 40 nominees, and by the close of today, we would have approved 42 ministerial nominees out of 60.

“As a matter of fact, all those nominated to serve in the government’s cabinet have been vetted and approved by this House. This is a record performance that Parliament should be proud of. We have achieved this feat with the cooperation and support of our colleagues on the Minority side, despite some theatrics and drama,” Mr. Ayariga said.

He further supported the plea by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin for the Speaker to lift the suspension of four MPs following the vetting chaos on January 30.

Mr. Ayariga urged the Speaker to temper justice with mercy, noting that the MPs involved in the incident have shown remorse.

The Speaker of Parliament subsequently lifted the suspension with immediate effect, stating that the committee set up to investigate the matter would present its findings in due course.
