President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mr. Albert Kwadwo Twum Boafo as the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC).
The appointment, communicated via a statement dated February 3 and signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, acting spokesperson to the President, is pending the reconstitution of the board.
Mr. Twum Boafo is a civil engineer, finance expert, and former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, a position he held from 2009 to 2017.
He holds a BEng in Materials Engineering from the University of Wales, an MSc in Civil Engineering from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, and an MBA in Finance and Investment Analysis from Stetson University in Deland, Florida, USA.
The announcement came alongside the appointment of Dr. Nii Moi Thompson as chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, pending approval by the Council of State.
“As chairman of the Commission, he will collaborate more closely with the Minister for Finance, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, the Government Statistician, and other presidential appointees and representatives from the sixteen regions to provide strategic advice to the President and Parliament for Ghana’s development,” the statement read in part.
The FIC serves as the national center for receiving and analyzing suspicious transaction reports and other information related to money laundering, terrorist financing, and proliferation financing (ML/TF&P).
It is also responsible for disseminating actionable intelligence to competent authorities.
