The Ghana School of Law has received a generous donation of 1.1 acres of land from the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to establish a permanent campus in Kumasi.
This strategic move is expected to significantly enhance the institution’s presence and impact in the region, providing a dedicated learning space for students.
The land allocation places the campus near the central business district and the court complex, aligning with the school’s policy of situating campuses close to judicial centers for improved accessibility and practical training.
Previously a tenant at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the Ghana School of Law will now have its own space in Kumasi, marking a significant milestone in its growth.
Justice Nana Barima Yaw Kodie Oppong, the Director of the Ghana School of Law, expressed deep gratitude to Otumfuo for this donation. He highlighted how the new campus would support the school’s mission to offer quality legal education across multiple locations in Ghana.
During the induction of 222 new law students for the 2024/2025 academic year, Justice Oppong emphasised the importance of ethical conduct and discipline in the legal profession.
He was joined by Dr. Chris Adomako Kwakye, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Law, who encouraged students to uphold the institution’s ethical standards as they embark on their legal careers.
Additionally, Kwame Owusu Sekyere, President of the Ashanti Region Bar Association, advised the new students to understand the weight of their professional role and maintain a distinguished reputation.
This milestone not only enhances the educational experience of law students in Kumasi but also strengthens the legal profession’s presence in the region, contributing to the ongoing development of Ghana’s judicial system.
