Interior Minister-designate, Muntaka Mubarak has noted that although he traces his ancestry to the Northern Region, he is a proud Kumerican born and bred in Kumasi.

According to him, he has stayed in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region all his life although he occasionally visits his extended family in Tamale and other parts of the Northern Region.

Explaining his background to the Appointment Committee of Parliament on Friday, January 24, Muntaka Mubarak said he is proud to call Kumasi his hometown.

“Everybody came from somewhere that moved to somewhere and somewhere and somewhere. So for me, my hometown is Kumasi. That’s where I was born and bred. That’s where I have lived, I have siblings who do not even know Techiman, not alone to get to Tamale. Yes I’m a Southerner with a Northern background and I’m proud of it. I attended Tamale secondary school, I visited the family, I visited Kunbungu where my grandfather hails from.

“I was born and bred in Kumasi and I use Kumasi as my hometown and I’m proud of it. Yes, we have the extended family, some are in Salaga. Some are in Tamale. I am born and bred in Kumasi and I’m proud of that and I see Kumasi as my hometown and I will remain proud of being a Kumerican,” Muntaka Mubarak said.

Among the things the Interior Minister-designate plans to do when approved, to ensure there is professionalism in the Ghana Police Service.

He has also assured that steps will be taken to decongest various prisons in the county through a public-private partnership.
