I’ll insist on professionalism from Police officers – Interior Minister-designate Muntaka Mubarak

Interior Minister-designate, Muntaka Mubarak has assured that once approved, he will demand professionalism from officers of the Ghana Police Service.

Appearing before the Appointment Committee of Parliament on Friday, January 24, the Asawase Member of Parliament argued that the unscrupulous behaviour of some police officers must not be condoned.

He proposed that one of the measures that will be implemented will be the use of body cameras by Police officers.

“The only way to deal with this in my view is to have the body cameras on and insist and ensure that everybody adheres to it.

“I will demand that the professionalism standard that they have set for themselves, they will hold themselves to it,” Muntaka Mubarak said.

Despite the reservations about the professional conduct of Police officers, the nominee admitted that some officers attach professionalism to their work.

He commended the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare for not deploying firearms for the 2024 general election.

As Interior Minister, Muntaka Mubarak said he will work with the various security agencies in the country when approved.

He has pledged to ensure the inhumane conditions of prison inmates are looked at and addressed.

To do this, Muntaki disclosed that his office will explore public-private partnerships in decongestion of the country’s prisons.
