The National Media Commission has been explaining how it settled on William Ampem Darko out of four candidates short-listed for the position of Director General for the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.

The Commission officially named the 54-year-old lecturer and consultant on Thursday to take over from Yaw Owusu Addo, who has been acting as Director General for 19 months.

Mr. Owusu Addo was among the four short-listed candidates interviewed for the position and some staff of the corporation expected him to get the job.

But that did not happen. Joy News' Matilda Asante spoke to the Executive Secretary of the Media Commission George Sarpong about the selection criterion and the future of the man who has held GBC together for a year and a half.
