THU, 23 JAN 2025

Ghana Health Service (GHS) is currently managing 214 suspected cases of cholera in the Agona West Municipality of the Central Region, with 11 cases already confirmed by the municipal health directorate.

According to Bertha Arthur, the Municipal Director of Health Services, the situation is being treated as an emergency and heightened monitoring and surveillance measures have been put in place to contain the outbreak.

She has urged all stakeholders to remain vigilant and support efforts to curb the spread of the disease, as health officials intensify their operations to save lives.

Residents have been advised to maintain strict hygiene practices, be mindful of what they consume, and seek medical attention immediately if they experience symptoms of cholera.

The latest outbreak follows a similar surge in cases in the last quarter of 2024, which resulted in five deaths in Kasoa, also within the Central Region.

Health authorities are working to prevent further fatalities and have called for public cooperation to stop the spread of the disease.
