The Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi, Yusif Sulemana, has lashed out at members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) over their criticism of President John Dramani Mahama’s ministerial appointments.
Out of the 42 ministerial nominees announced so far, seven are women, appointed to head various ministries, including Trade and Gender.
The NPP, particularly the Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, on Tuesday, January 21, criticised the lack of women representation in the President’s third batch of nominees.
“It appears President John Mahama is not willing to stick to his own promise made to Ghanaians prior to the 2024 elections that nearly 30% of all appointments would go to women in his government.
“There are over 30 women elected to Parliament from the NDC majority side. Of all these hardworking women, only a handful have been given substantive ministerial appointments,” the Effutu MP stated on the floor of Parliament.
Speaking Wednesday on the Accra-based JoyNews’ AM Show, Mr. Sulemana responded by calling the NPP's critique "hypocritical."
In order to guarantee gender, regional, and ethnic balance in the appointments, he revealed, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) established a committee.
“The NDC has put together a committee, and it is this committee that is making the appointments. The committee has in mind issues of regional balance, ethnic balance, gender balance, and others.
“They [NPP] shouldn’t behave as if they are the ones directing us on what to do. That’s the hypocrisy of the NPP. When they hear you are doing something, they come out to criticise it, making it look like they are the ones directing you,” Mr. Sulemana said.
He stressed that, supported by the resounding majority it enjoys in Parliament, the NDC is committed to fulfilling its mandate.
“Ghanaians have given us this majority for a reason. God has given us this majority for a reason, and we are going to deliver. Come on board, make your criticisms, and let us all work together to develop our nation.
“We have no place to go. Ghana is what we have, and we must all work together to make our country proud,” he stressed.

Where was all these advice when nana addo was going around destroying the future of npp If afenyo Markin kept his silence and kuffour didn't see anything wrong then please don't say anything now. Silence is said to be golden and since npp criminals believe in last minute gold I will suggest you have taken the gold leave H E JM to restore good governance to the good people of Ghana.
