The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) of Ghana has established a Special Cybersecurity Taskforce in Bawku to monitor, investigate, and act against individuals leveraging social media platforms to incite violence in the region.

The public has been urged to assist the task force by reporting any audio recordings, images, social media accounts, or other digital evidence linked to individuals promoting conflict in Bawku and its surrounding areas. Reports can be submitted via WhatsApp to 050 160 3111, where the evidence will undergo evaluation for further action.

The task force also plans to collaborate with ambassadors and high commissioners from countries where some suspected instigators may reside. This cooperation aims to facilitate the extradition of these individuals to Ghana to face legal consequences.

Offenders could face prosecution under anti-terrorism laws and international conventions on genocide, both of which carry severe penalties.

President John Dramani Mahama has directed the CSA to work closely with National Security to curtail the misuse of social media in fueling violent conflicts in Bawku, located in the Upper East Region, and Walewale, in the North East Region. This coordinated effort underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the role of digital platforms in escalating tensions and ensuring peace in these areas.
