The Minority in Parliament has launched a sharp critique of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing the party of deceiving Ghanaians with unrealistic promises to secure victory in the 2024 general elections.
During a debate on President John Dramani Mahama’s second batch of ministerial nominees on Tuesday, January 21, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin called out the NDC for what he described as unachievable campaign rhetoric.
Afenyo-Markin vowed that the Minority would hold the government accountable for its electoral commitments, ensuring that every promise is scrutinized and fulfilled. He warned that winning an election does not give the ruling party unchecked authority, stressing that the Minority would serve as a vigilant watchdog.
“We will hold your feet to the fire,” Afenyo-Markin declared. “You think you campaigned and got it handed to you on a silver platter? You will see. You call us a micro Minority, but you will see.”
The Minority Leader accused the NDC of setting high expectations without a concrete plan for delivery, cautioning that the Ghanaian public would soon realize what he termed the ruling party’s "true intentions."
He concluded by reiterating the Minority’s commitment to ensuring that the government lives up to its campaign promises. “Today, you are in government, and we will follow through on every single promise you made while on the campaign platform,” Afenyo-Markin emphasized.
The debate underscored the Minority’s determination to serve as a robust opposition, closely monitoring the government’s actions and holding it accountable to the people of Ghana.

Afenyo-Markin, that statement is meaningless. Ghanaians voted for the NDC because they delivered on their promises; thus, your job is to figure out how to address the unmet promises of the opposition administration.
