The Opposition NPP Mustn’t Expect Mahama To Repair Eight Years Of Their Devastation Of Ghana In A Month

During the eight years in power, the NPP politicians encouraged and supported the Akufo Addo-Bawumia administration to engage in widespread corruption, money laundering, state capture, illicit mining, electoral fraud, and the looting of state property, which ultimately caused Ghana's once-thriving economy, businesses, and investments to collapse. However, now that the party has lost the election, they want the new government to clear up their long-standing devastation as soon as they take office.

It is obvious that some NPP politicians were unhappy with the appalling or horrible course chosen by the previous administration but lacked the courage to speak out against a government that had destroyed the economy and the souls of the people they had haughtily mistreated and abused for eight years. At the same time, many illiterates in the past administration, agitated by their significant loss, believe they can undermine the new president and portray him as incompetent.

For years, the NPP has been an empty political party since its members are more concerned with the party's survival than with the general well-being of the populace. Shockingly, after all the atrocities they committed, including administration based on the “Agyapdie governance,” which encouraged the previous government to steal public monies and properties with impunity, the former government still expected Ghanaians to come forward and massively vote for them. What disrespect to the people?

Every piece of Ghanaian infrastructure, including the electricity sector, has been destroyed by the Akufo Addo-Bawumia government's poor governance. The previous government, which ruled from 2017 to 2024, accumulated a debt of $1.5 billion, but the NPP politicians who are responsible and upset about losing the election have now chosen to focus on attacking John Mahama, who took power a few days after January 7. This is absurd, and in my opinion, it will never help them regain power.

The majority of Ghanaians view the previous government as the greatest threat to democracy, something the NPP has yet to acknowledge. It is clear that most Ghanaians and many organizations, including the Peace Council, lived in constant fear under the leadership of Akufo Addo and Bawumia; as a result, they were unable to speak out against a government that has wreaked havoc on the nation through widespread corruption, stolen pensioners' life savings, and killed them.

In addition to overthrowing the most corrupt and despotic government in Ghana's political history, the December 7, 2024, elections marked the liberation of Ghanaians from a government that had suppressed their lives for eight years, imposed harsh taxation on the people, ruined businesses and investments, murdered and imprisoned numerous journalists, and permitted arrogance and state capture, which involved the looting of the country's finances, properties, and mineral resources.

The Akufo Addo-Bawumia administration wasted eight years by fighting against the opposition, the NDC, rather than finding solutions for the people's problems. They didn’t only cut the lives of pensioners short after stealing their money but also drowned hundreds of Ghanaians who left the country in pursuit of better opportunities in the oceans. How can the NPP be so deceitful without integrity, by continually attacking a new government that is cleaning up a mess they built in eight years?

The intelligent ones among Ghanaians, in my opinion, have nothing to do with the NPP and therefore, aren’t interested in the party. So every attempt to persuade Ghanaians to believe that the NDC is incompetent or make things difficult for the new government, is just a waste of time because that's not going to change the mind of the people to bring them back to power. The rigging system of the NPP has been dismantled and they will be in the opposition for decades.
