Francis Asenso-Boakye, former Minister for Roads and Highways, has countered claims by the new minister, Governs Kwame Agbodza, regarding the total road kilometres constructed by the Akufo-Addo government.
Speaking during his vetting by Parliament’s Appointment Committee on January 20, Kwame Agbodza disputed claims that the Akufo-Addo administration constructed over 11,000 kilometres of new roads.
According to him, official records show that only 673 kilometres of new roads were built between 2017 and 2024.
“At the time of the transition, the new roads constructed amounted to 673 kilometres. The record in Parliament clearly shows that Ghana did not construct 11,000 kilometres of new roads since 2017 but rather focused on re-graveling and graveling,” he said.
He added: “The bulk of the work that has been done is re-graveling and graveling, which is 6,185.90 kilometres.”
However, speaking on the floor of Parliament on January 21, Mr. Asenso-Boakye insisted the former administration constructed 13,624 kilometres of roads, noting that his successor had misled the public.
“Honorable Speaker, let me put on record that as of December 2024, per the transition report, the Akufo-Addo government had constructed 13,624 kilometres of road. This figure is against the 4,630 kilometres of road constructed by the previous government in eight years,” Asenso-Boakye said.

From 2017 to 2024, the NPP continued to lie, and even in opposition, they are still lying. Prove all those constructed roads before Ghanaians to believe your claim.
