A delegation comprising the General Council of Assemblies of God, Ghana, the Nyankpen and Wengam families, and Cedar Mountain Chapel has paid a courtesy visit to President John Mahama in Accra.
The visit was to formally inform the President of the passing of Madam Deborah Wengam, mother of the General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Stephen Wengam.
During the visit, the delegation invited President Mahama to attend the funeral service scheduled for Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra.
The delegation was led by the Assistant General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Dr. Godwin Tito Agyei, who paid glowing tribute to Madam Wengam for her 71 years of dedication as a member of the church. He highlighted her remarkable contribution in raising Rev. Wengam, whom he described as a visionary leader whose impact resonates within the church and beyond.
Rev. Dr. Tito Agyei noted that the funeral service is expected to attract a diverse group of attendees, including a significant delegation from the international community.
He also expressed gratitude to President Mahama for his prompt visit to commiserate with the bereaved family upon learning of Madam Wengam's passing.
President Mahama, in his remarks, praised the late Madam Wengam for her exemplary life of service and for nurturing a leader of Rev. Wengam’s stature, who has made significant contributions to the church and society. The President offered words of comfort to Rev. Wengam and his family and prayed for Madam Wengam’s soul to rest in peace.
