
President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Dr. Ransford Anertey Abbey as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), effective January 21, 2025.
The appointment, made in accordance with Article 195(1) of the Constitution and Section 12(2) of the Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 1984 (P.N.D.C.L 81), is pending the constitutionally required advice from the Board of COCOBOD in consultation with the Public Services Commission.
The announcement was conveyed in an official letter signed by Callistus Mahama, Ph.D., Secretary to the President. In the letter, Dr. Abbey was formally congratulated on his appointment and assured of the President’s best wishes as he assumes his new role.
Dr. Abbey brings to the position extensive expertise and experience in agricultural management and policy, critical to steering the operations of COCOBOD. His appointment comes at a pivotal time for Ghana’s cocoa industry, which plays a significant role in the country’s economy and global trade.
Under his leadership, COCOBOD is expected to focus on enhancing cocoa production, improving the welfare of cocoa farmers, and addressing industry challenges, including price volatility, climate change impacts, and sustainability practices.
