Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament, has called on Dr. Dominic Ayine, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice-Designate, to review the activities of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee once he assumes office.
Afenyo-Markin emphasized the importance of creating an environment where entering and exiting government positions is attractive, without focusing solely on political opponents.
He stated, “Let us create an impression. Let us make getting into government attractive and getting out of government also attractive. Yes, don’t let us create an impression that we get into office only to focus on so-called political opponents.”
Addressing the ORAL committee, Afenyo-Markin expressed concerns about its constitutionality and legality.
He remarked, “That so-called ORAL committee, claiming to be going after loot, must be cautioned that it is unconstitutional and illegal.”
He further urged Dr. Ayine to bring the committee to order and allow state institutions, duly mandated to investigate, to follow due process.
“I pray that my respected colleague, Dr. Ayine, after taking office, will review the activities of this illegal, unconstitutional body, bring this to order and allow the state institutions, clothed with the mandate to investigate, to follow due process, investigate and prosecute, if necessary,” remarked the Effutu MP.
He stressed by highlighting the importance of upholding justice and fairness, regardless of one’s position in government.
“Today, you are in government. Tomorrow, you will be in opposition, do unto others as in all situations, you wish them to do unto you,” he said.
The ORAL committee, established by President-elect John Dramani Mahama, aims to recover misappropriated public funds and state properties.
However, it has faced criticism from members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and some opinion leaders who question its legality and motives.
